Volunteers are an integral part of our organization. In addition to your contributions to our [GJP1] projects, you are also a part of the movement we are building to create a healthy, sustainable and inclusive food future in Greater Victoria. As a volunteer, you are a LifeCycles Member.
What does it mean to be a member?
Members reflect our values: to care for the land, to empower the community and to build a movement that changes the way everyone lives and eats in Greater Victoria[GJP2] . Our organization would not be what it is without our dedicated group of volunteers. Each year, you give thousands of hours of your time to our projects. That’s why[GJP3] , as a member, you have voting privileges at our Annual General Meeting. You are the voice of our organization and the foundation of our sustainable food movement.
Membership is free, but if you’d like to show your financial support you can make a donation. All donations go directly towards supporting our projects and the creation of a sustainable, inclusive food future. Tax receipts will be issued for donations of $20 or more.
To help us manage our programs, the Gleaning Hub has been programmed to send out a limited number of automatic messages to notify registrants about important events.
Tree owners can expect to receive notifications and reminders when an assessment or pick has been scheduled or cancelled. Seasonal reminders will also be sent to tree owners prompting them to update their information and confirm they want us to harvest their tree by 'requesting a pick' for the current season.
Volunteers receive a monthly e-bulletin with information about upcoming events and volunteer opportunities. They also receive information relevant to their chosen role(s), including seasonal notifications, invitations to orientations, role specific training opportunities and/or reminders about the picking schedule.
All users of the Gleaning Hub are able to manage their preferences on their profile page. Please note that if you disable a role or remove a tree from your account you will be terminating your involvement in that aspect of the program, ending all related communications.
